Progress Report

| April 28, 2015

It’s been a couple months since I was really sick and things are finally progressing well.  I am back to training at a pretty high level.  I still don’t have the speed I would like, but I’m slowly increasing my endurance.  Last week I managed to run 53 miles.  I got a really solid brick in on Saturday with 45 miles on the spin bike, 8 mile run to Evans City and back with my friend Traci and a 1200 yard swim.  It felt good to get all 3 in that day.  I still can’t predict how Worlds will go on June 27th, but I’m happy to say that I am at least feeling stronger and feeling that I can now race it and not just get through it.  I still have some big bricks ahead of me, but I won’t give up.  I will get through these long workouts and be stronger in the end.

In addition to my training, I am also continuing to fight some health issues.  My stomach has been pretty upset and I haven’t been able to lose weight.  These are two things I need to fix before Worlds.  I keep hoping once the weather warms up, things will start to feel better.  Can you believe that my purple is still turning purple?  I thought that was behind me, but I’m still majorly affected by cold weather.  I have to admit, I’m a little nervous about the cold water in Sweden.  I really hope the weather warms up there and the water really warms up.  2.5 miles is a long way to swim in cold water.

So what’s coming up for my training?  I need to get in a couple really long 5,000 yard swims.  I plan to bike 100 miles on May 9 and run some off the bike and then I’d like to get in a couple more 18-20 mile runs before I head to Sweden.  It won’t be easy but I will be up for the challenge.
