Mix-up your workout's is one way. Some of you tell me you do the same thing everyday or every week. You run the same course, you do the same workout on the treadmill. You only do one sport and no cross-training. When you get stuck in these routines, your body gets stuck too. You get to a point where you have to change things.

If you run 5 miles, 5 days a week and a long run on the weekend and never cross train or do speed work, you won't burn any more calories and more importantly, you'll never get any faster. It's important to change what you do and when you do it.

  • Add hill workouts

  • Add Interval Training

  • Start swimming

  • Start cycling or spinning

  • Start a walking program

  • Do aerobics, kick boxing or core training at your local fitness center

  • Join a basketball league, volleyball, or softball league

  • Hike or do rock climbing

  • Cross country ski

Also, another great way to increase your metabolism is to add weight lifting to the mix. This will dramatically increase your metabolism and help you get toned and lose weight. There are a bunch of exercises you can do at home to increase your metabolism, by only adding 15 or 20 minutes a day to your routine.

The most important thing is to have fun with what you do and keep exercising. Even if you don't lose more weight, it's important to lead a healthy lifestyle by exercising on a regular basis.
