Truck Driving and Exercise

| January 18, 2014

Some specific tips for truck drivers and anyone else wanting to get fit again.

Exercise in the morning or when you wake-up. Starting your day with exercise will wake you up! Do 20 minutes to a half hour when you’re on the road. When you get fuel or wake up at a truck stop, wake up a ½ hour early and go for a walk or a jog. You will notice a big difference in your energy level the rest of the day. You can even break up your exercise during the day and get 10 minutes in at a time at different stops. Use the weekends to do longer stuff and build endurance and give your metabolism an extra boost. I would use the weekend to go for a long bike ride with your kids, go hiking, water skiing, golfing, running or walking. These are just a few suggestions.

Try these as well

  • Push-ups
  • Sit-ups
  • Dips
  • Carry weights in your truck
  • Walk, walk, walk
  • Jog and walk if you can

Other over the road tips

  • Don’t eat too much. Watch the serving sizes and portion sizes.
  • Eat healthy foods.
  • Try to stop smoking
  • Get the most nutrition out of the calories you eat as you can
  • Find a balance between food and physical activity
  • Make smart choices from every food group.
  • Make small changes and see big results. (Dressings, fried foods, pop or soda)

What ever you do, have fun and be safe with your exercise plan. If you would like suggestions or if you would like me to design a specific program for you, stop by the office and we can design a fitness program that will help you to succeed.
