Get Fit Families Tri Team athletes standing with a coach at a beach triathlon

GFF Tri Team

Athletes train in the swim, the bike, and the run with coaches and teammates. Families are part of the team.

Yearly team fee: $75.

Find your place on the team

Athletes start in different places. Some are new to triathlon. Others are already racing. Practice covers swim strokes, bike handling, and running, with teammates nearby and coaches leading the work.

  • Sportsmanship and confidence grow through training and races.
  • Older and younger athletes train together.
  • Families share the goals. Coaches and teammates support the athlete.

Not every athlete is preparing for elite racing. Ask about your child’s fit.

Understand the team levels

These ranges overlap, so age alone does not choose a level. Ask which level fits. Athletes younger than 6 need coach approval.

Youngest athletes

Ages 10 and under

Beginners and experienced young athletes.

  • Swim strokes, plus speed and endurance in the swim and on the bike.
  • Bike handling skills.
  • Friendly competition, with Youth Nationals as a goal.

Ages 11–15

Youth Development-in-Training

Athletes preparing for draft-legal Youth and Junior Development races.

  • Swim stroke development.
  • Bike handling, and running fast off the bike.
  • Training with older teammates, with Youth Nationals as a goal.

Ages 13–19

Youth and Junior Development

Athletes racing at the draft-legal Youth and Junior Development level.

  • Training aimed at those races.
  • Extra sessions.
  • College-preparation support as available.

Draft-legal means riders may stay close behind another athlete on the bike and use that rider’s slipstream.

School and behavior expectations

Athletes are expected to keep at least a C average. If a grade drops below a C, talk with the coaches; the athlete may pause practices until the grade recovers. A failing class means a temporary pause from practice. Detention means no practice that day. A school suspension means no practice during the suspension. Families may excuse practice for tests or projects without consequence. Coaches will help with tutoring support when extra academic help is needed.
