Moraine State Park · Portersville, PA
Mighty Moraine Multi-Sport
Two weekends of triathlon, duathlon, aqua bike, adventure racing, relays, and youth races at Lake Arthur. Every skill level is welcome both weekends.
Spring: May 22–23, 2027. Fall: August 14–15, 2027.
Registration is not open yet. Start times for 2027 will be posted closer to each weekend.
Choose a weekend
The same kinds of races return each year. Spring opens the season. Fall is the later weekend. Start times and packet-pickup schedules are set each year, so they are not listed here.

Youth distances for the youngest athletes have varied slightly by year, from a very short swim and bike up to about a 50 yard swim and 1 mile bike, with a 1/2 mile run. The posted race list for 2027 is the one to follow. Newer athletes have been given a sprint start of their own. That wave time is announced with the schedule.
Three ways to be here
Read the path that fits. You do not have to choose a weekend before the note makes sense.
First race, or nervous about the swim
You can start with a shorter race, ask a volunteer, and practice the swim before you need it. On race day you can stop, float on your back, and hold a kayak. Support stays on the water. You will not be left alone.
GFF Open Water Swim is the place to get used to Lake Arthur before either weekend. If you want to race without a swim, choose the sprint duathlon or the adventure race. The adventure race uses a paddle instead of a swim.
Returning athletes and tri clubs
Compare the Olympic weekend day with the shorter Sunday races, then look at the course maps. Clubs race together here. Team recognition and any club offer are announced for that year. They are not a standing discount.
Racing for the sport, the fun, and the people
Come to finish, eat, and spend the weekend at the park. Music and age-group awards have been part of the day. If you place, pick up your award before you leave. Awards are not mailed.
What to expect at Moraine
The races
A Lake Arthur swim with kayaks and paddleboards nearby, a bike on the park roads, and a run on the shaded trail. The duathlon is run, bike, run. The adventure race starts with a paddle. Body marking and a timing chip are part of check-in.
The day around the race
Volunteers are on the course. Finishers have received a medal and a shirt. Food has been available after the race. If you place, collect your award on race day. Awards are not mailed.
On-site packet pickup is $20, and cash or Venmo is accepted. Pickup dates, hours, and locations are posted for each weekend. They are not the same every year.
Cold water and the swim
Spring water at Lake Arthur is cold. Bring what you need to stay warm, and spend time in open water before race week. Nothing on this page requires a wetsuit.
Open Water Swim is how GFF athletes practice sighting, starting, and settling nerves at Moraine before either Mighty Moraine weekend.
Travel and lodging
The races are at Moraine State Park in Portersville. Visitors often stay in Slippery Rock or Cranberry Township. These are options, not a hotel package:
- Fairfield Inn Slippery Rock
- Applebutter Inn Slippery Rock
- Home2 Suites Cranberry
